This has always been intended as a forum for like-minded, kindred spirits.
Recently, I've found that a distinction has to be made, due to an onslaught of attacks -- directed toward me and toward other forum users.
The forum was shut down for a few months until I could figure out how to strike a balance between my own "real life" and the work that I needed to put into maintaining the forum.
Here's the result:
This is a forum mainly intended for those who are often labeled as progressive.
Arguments ARE allowed! But...
Posts and/or replies that constitute what I (and those whom I choose as moderators) consider to be sniping, trolling, proselytizing, disruptive -- anything that seems to be intended merely to intimidate, to convert, or to incite other users -- will be deleted, as will the intimidator's account. If you engage in such behavior, you'll probably be given a warning before your account is deleted. However, you won't be given more than one warning.
This is not "thought police" at work, although some who disagree with the foregoing will insist that that's the case. I created this forum and use my own time, without pay, to maintain it, so I'll decide upon the level of animosity allowed.
(If you don't like it, go elsewhere, such as to You must be logged in to see this link. website. See how opinions that differ from those of the right wing fare there.)
Keep in mind that, although most users are from the United States (at this time, at least), quite a few people from other countries and cultures also visit. Many of them use English as a second, third, etc. language.
Create and use only one account under one user name. If it's discovered that you're using multiple accounts, all of your accounts will be deleted or locked.
These rules are subject to change as the need arises.
If you would like access to the "Members Only" areas, please follow these directions:
1. Send e-mail to email@example.com with "Forum Access" in the Subject line.
2. Be sure to use a VALID e-mail address. Sorry, but e-mail addresses from Yahoo, Hotmail, other "free" providers, where one can create e-mail accounts without verification, and other anonymous e-mail providers will not be given access, due to past abuse.
3. In the body of the message, let me know that you've read these rules -- something such as: "I've read the rules, and I have no problem with them." Include your REAL NAME as well as the USER NAME that you've chosen to use for the forum. Your information will never be provided to anyone else -- I will be the only one who will know.
4. Please be patient. It will probably take at least a week to give you access. If you don't receive a reply to your request within a month, write back.
